These sessions, held from the Disaster Recovery (DR) site, are designed to test the exchange’s trading systems, infrastructure, and contingency procedures in a controlled environment.

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) will conduct mock trading sessions across its capital, commodity and currency derivatives segments on Saturday, 30 August, the bourse said in a release.

These sessions, held from the Disaster Recovery (DR) site, are designed to test the exchange’s trading systems, infrastructure, and contingency procedures in a controlled environment. Importantly, no new software updates will be released during this exercise.

What is a mock trading session? A mock trading session is a simulated market exercise organised by the NSE to replicate live trading conditions without any financial risk. While the sessions mimic real-time activity, all trades and settlements are virtual, ensuring that participants face no fund pay-in or payout.

Such sessions allow brokers, traders, and market intermediaries to familiarise themselves with the platform and processes, test new products, software upgrades or system changes, and run stress and contingency drills.

They also enable the exchange to evaluate whether its systems can handle high volumes, stress situations, and regulatory requirements, ensuring the resilience and reliability of live market operations.

The NSE typically conducts mock trading once a month. The exchange emphasised that such drills form a crucial part of its efforts to maintain a robust and resilient trading platform. “The Exchange gives utmost importance to periodical testing of trading infrastructure and its recovery & response mechanisms. Contingency Drills/Mock Trading sessions are conducted for this purpose from time to time,” the NSE stated while releasing its mock trading calendar for 2025.
