The sequel to the 2019 De De Pyaar De released in cinemas last Friday, November 14 and had a decent opening at the box office. Romcoms are not expected to bring in those huge numbers, especially post pandemic. The film opened at Rs 8.75 crore and saw growth on its first weekend. But over the last few days, it was holding decently well as there was positive word of mouth. Just as the film completes one week now, this Friday sees the release of films like 120 Bahadur and Masti 4 and thus, the Ajay Devgn starrer romantic comedy may see a drop.
The film made less than Rs 30 crore on the opening weekend. On first Monday, it saw a slight drop at the box office which was expected. The Monday dip is the most natural for the biggest movies. So, it earned Rs 4.25 crore on Monday which is a drop of around 60 percent. On Tuesday, the movie made Rs 5 crore which is a bit of growth. This could be due to discounted ticket prices on Tuesday. It collected Rs 3.5 crore on Wednesday and on Thursday, day 6, it minted Rs 3.35 crore. The total collection now by the end of first week is Rs 51.10 crore.
While the original De De Pyaar De wrapped up its global run at around ₹131 crore, a mark this film is unlikely to match, the earlier movie’s overseas tally of $2.8 million is within reach, provided the second weekend holds strong.
There are two new releases today - Masti 4 and 120 Bahadur which may give competition to De De Pyaar De 2 but at the moment, the advance bookings and day 1 numbers of both look dull. It is also likely that the Ajay Devgn starrer may dominate over the newer releases if both do not get word of mouth and fail to pick up.
