Kantara Chapter 1 box office collection day 1: The Rishab Shetty starrer mints Rs 60 crore on opening day, beats Chhaava, Saiyaara

Rishab Shetty’s prequel to the 2022 hit Kantara is one of the most awaited films of the year. Set for a Dusshera release, Kantara Chapter 1 is not only one of the biggest Kannada films ever but also a major pan-India festive release. As per the latest update, the film has already crossed the Rs 65 crore mark.

Opening day box office figures

According to early estimates in Sacnilk, the film collected Rs 60.00 crore on its first day at the box office. Meanwhile, it managed to mint Rs 19-21 crore approximately in Hindi language.

Beating other major hits

It has already surpassed the opening day collections of several major releases this year, including Saiyaara (Rs 22 crore), Sikandar (Rs 26 crore), and Chhaava (Rs 31 crore). The film is also approaching the opening day earnings of Rajinikanth’s Coolie (Rs 65 crore). Celebs shower praise

Jr NTR tweeted about the film and wrote, “Congratulations to the team of #KantaraChapter1 on scoring a resounding success. @shetty_rishab sir pulled off the unthinkable by excelling both as a mindblowing actor and a brilliant director. My best wishes to the entire cast and crew, along with @hombalefilms, for fearlessly backing Rishab sir’s vision.”

Meanwhile, in a recent interview with Indian Express, Rishab remembered the late Rakesh Poojary, who passed away during the shoot. He said, Definitely it’s a huge loss, but we cannot connect it to the film. It’s about human life, out of the three people we lost, two were junior artists, one of them had not even reached our set, he was on the way when he had some health issues, and later we got to know he had a heart attack. We sent the manager there to take him to the hospital and get the post-mortem and other formalities sorted.

Shetty explained that the second death did not happen on the set. He added, There was another man from Kerala, I remember his face, it was a night shoot, and his accident didn’t happen on our set. We were rehearsing in another town, there was a temple, and a river was close by. There was a board that said it was an accident-prone area, but youngsters want to explore; he went there, and the accident happened. He had shot with me multiple times.

About the film

Backed by Vijay Kiragandur and Chaluve Gowda under the Hombale Films banner, Kantara: Chapter 1 is directed by Rishab Shetty, who also plays the lead role. Rishab had earlier won the National Film Award for Best Actor for Kantara (2022), which also received the award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment.

The film also stars Rukmini Vasanth, Gulshan Devaiah, and Jayaram in key roles. Its technical crew includes Arvind S Kashyap as the cinematographer, Suresh as the editor, B Ajaneesh Loknath for music, and Banglan for production design.
