Bengaluru: Emphasising the role played by Brahmins in protecting and promoting Vedic religion and culture, Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham pontiff Jagadguru Sri Shankara Vijayendra Saraswathi Swamiji said it was time the community members collaborated for their personal and collective development.

Addressing a 3,000-plus gathering at an Akhila Karnataka Brahmana Mahasabha event at Palace Grounds on Sunday, the pontiff said the community members were facing economic difficulties and losing their voice in the propagation of dharma after independence. In this backdrop, he urged Brahmins to work unitedly for social and spiritual progress. While exhorting the community to play a vital role in promoting Sanatana Dharma, the pontiff said: For the Vedic religion to be stable, there should be Brahmanism.

Jagadgurus 7-point suggestions

1. Dont outsource practices

Dharma is fundamental to our nation and Brahmins must play a pivotal role in promoting Sanatana Dharma. Practices like sandhya vandana, Gayatri worship, agni puja, hospitality and cooking at home must not be outsourced but upheld in daily life.

2. Strive to remain in India

Brahmins should strive to remain in India, where their presence is vital for preserving the nations spiritual and cultural heritage. Bharat should be strengthened by those contributing to the countrys growth and education, including sponsoring students Vedic studies.

3. Consider gated communities

Brahmins should consider creating ‘agraharas or gated communities, where 50-100 families can live together in mutual cooperation. This will foster a strong, organized society focused on culture, education and science. Following the Vedic path and protecting the religion must be at the forefront.

4. Counter negative portrayal

Brahmins must ensure that their portrayal in media and movies is dignified and respectful. To counter negative depictions, Brahmins should engage more in fields like music, art and cinema, showcasing their contributions to society.

5. Maintain ties with villages

Brahmins must stay connected with rural communities, especially by serving as teachers or community leaders in villages. If Brahmins abandon their village roots, there will be a loss of guidance and leadership in rural India.

6. Uphold standards

Establishing detailed records of Gotras in every household and temple will preserve the cultural heritage. Upholding standards in dress, address, and temple management will contribute to the protection and promotion of dharma.

7. Greater presence in administration

During ancient times, Brahmins had a place in all palaces throughout the country including in Kashmir. But now Brahmins are facing difficulties because of bad policies and propaganda. In power circles, Brahmins should be given a proper place to protect and promote dharma for future generations.
