Sean Diddy Combs filed a defamation lawsuit against his accuser Courtney Burgess, her attorney Ariel Mitchell, and the media network NewsNation for $50 million.
The lawsuit filed in the Southern District of New York on January 22 further claims that defendants fabricated and amplified false allegations regarding the rapper for financial gains. Combs asserts that the NewsNation aired these unfounded claims without thorough investigation, hence soaring the damage to his reputation.
According to ANI, the lawsuit accused Burgess of stating she has videos of Combs participating in the group sexual assault of celebrities and minors, an accusation Combs says never happened. Burgess and Mitchell allegedly told these stories to news sources, including NewsNation. Since the videos Burgess and Mitchell claim exist do not, Combs attorneys state the accusations made were either lies or made with reckless disregard for the truth.
Combs also sued attorney Ariel Mitchell. Mitchell had filed a number of suits against Combs, including a suit on behalf of an adult entertainer who alleged Combs sex trafficked her. The complaint alleges Mitchell discussed the lawsuits in the press, using them as a way to gain publicity for himself without properly serving them.
A significant part of the lawsuit reveals a segment from NewsNation broadcast in September with Mitchell making allegations about compromising footage of Combs, and where the host makes further speculations about hidden cameras. The news network is sued for failing to adequately vet claims before airing, and not extending an opportunity for comment to the representatives of Combs.
