The Wire actor James Ransone found dead; cause of death confirmed as suicide by hanging: Reports

TRIGGER WARNING: This article contains references to suicide. James Ransone, the actor best known for his roles as Ziggy Sobotka in The Wire and the older Eddie Kaspbrak in the horror film It: Chapter Two, has tragically passed away. He was 46.

According to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner, Ransone passed away on Friday. Multiple reports state that the actor was found dead at his Los Angeles home. The manner of his death was reportedly listed as suicide by hanging.

TMZ, which independently confirmed his death, reported that the Los Angeles Police Department responded to a call at the residence and completed a death investigation. No foul play was suspected in his death.

James Ransone film and television roles

Ransone rose to fame with his role in the HB series The Wire. He later gained wider recognition for his performance as the adult version of Eddie Kaspbrak in the hit Hollywood horror film It: Chapter Two. His film credits also include Tangerine, Sinister, Sinister 2, Spike Lee’s Oldboy remake, and The Black Phone and its sequel among, many others. His role in The Black Phone 2 went on to mark his final film appearance.

On television, he appeared in series such as Poker Face, Law & Order, Hawaii Five-0, SEAL Team and The First, among others.

James Ransones struggle with mental health In past interviews, Ransone had spoken openly about his struggles with mental health. He has also been open about a period of heroin addiction and experiencing abuse during his childhood.

He is survived by his wife and two children.
