Today is the National Sports Day. The day commemorates the birth anniversary of one of the greatest field hockey players, Major Dhyan Chand. National Sports Day is celebrated annually on August 29th, to emphasise the importance of sports and physical activities and serves to honour Major Dhyan Chand’s legacy in Indian hockey. On the occasion, Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya paid a floral tribute to Major Dhyan Chand at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in New Delhi earlier this morning.
Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya will also lead Fit India’s Pan-India Sports Movement till the 31st of this month across the nation. The movement honouring hockey legend Major Dhyanchand will commence on the occasion of National Sports Day. The Youth Affairs and Sports Ministry, in a statement, said that the three-day nationwide sports and fitness movement is being observed under the theme of ‘’Ek Ghanta, Khel ke Maidan Main’. The Ministry also highlighted that eminent athletes and public representatives are also set to take part in the National Sports Day celebrations and engage with sports activities in all corners of the nation.
