The Delhi-NCR region woke up to heavy rain on Friday morning, which further intensified later. An orange alert has been issued by the India Meteorological Department for several parts of Delhi-NCR today.
Travel advisory for passengers
The Delhi Airport and the IndiGo airlines have issued separate advisories in light of the weather situation in Delhi-NCR, asking passengers to plan travel in advance.
“The skies over Delhi are bringing in some light showers today. While there is no major impact on roads yet, travel may be slower in a few areas. If you are on your way to the airport, please plan ahead and check your flight details in advance using our app or website,” the airlines said on X.
The Delhi airport, while asked passengers to be in touch with their respective airlines for an update, clarified that operations at the airport have not been affected.
Waterlogging in parts of Delhi
Waterlogging was witnessed in parts of Delhi this morning amid heavy rain. Visuals from Sangam Vihar Neem Chowk Road showed vehicles wading through waterlogged roads.
An orange alert is in place is on for South West Delhi, Central Delhi, Shahadra and South Delhi. While there was earlier no alert for other parts of the national capital, there is now a yellow warning for those places.
Monsoon wreaks havoc in Himachal, J&K and Punjab
Over the past week, monsoon rains continue to wreak havoc across India In Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Punjab, cloudbursts and flash floods continue to pose a problem in the states.
In Punjab, the Indian Army has amped up its rescue operations as 835 villages in the state remain flooded.
Meanwhile, in Himachal, as per the SDMA, 524 roads, including two national highways, remain blocked in the state. Furthermore, 1,230 electricity distribution transformers have been disrupted, and 416 water supply schemes have been rendered non-functional.
