Elina Svitolina defeated American third seed Coco Gauff to advance into the semi-finals of the Australian Open on Tuesday, winning 6-1, 6-2 in 59 minutes in a closed roof stadium at Rod Laver Arena.
Svitolina, who is 31, is playing in her 14th Grand Slam quarter-final.
This is Svitolinas third semi-final appearance in her career and her first in Melbourne. She has had quarter-final appearances in the Australian Open in 2018, 2019, and 2025.
Very, very pleased with the tournament so far, said Svitolina.
Svitolina, who is seeded 12th, is on a 10-match winning streak after taking home the title in Auckland earlier this month. Svitolina will return to the top 10 on making it to the semi-finals, which is one of her aims after she returned to the tour after maternity leave.
Its always been my dream to come back after maternity leave to make the top 10. Always been my goal, she said.
It means the world to me. And of course I try to push myself, I try to give myself this motivation to continue. Very pleased with the performance at this tournament in Australia.
Gauff struggled throughout the match, particularly on serve. She was broken four times in the first set and twice in the second, winning just 41 percent of her first-serve points and making 19 unforced errors.
Gauff attempted to reset by changing racquets and taking a break after the first set, but the issues continued. She was broken again at the start of the second set and was unable to recover.
Svitolina will next face world number one Aryna Sabalenka, who defeated Iva Jovic.
Svitolinas most recent semi-final was at the Wimbledon in 2023.
