Michael Schumacher continues to be the biggest F1 champion the motorsport has ever seen. The seven-time world champion disappeared from the scene after his tragic ski accident in the Alps in 2013, while his fans have been waiting for any update about his health or a glimpse of him. Now, a new report has claimed that Schumacher is finally out of bed and can be wheeled around in a wheelchair. This comes as happy news for his fans, who never got to see him again after the skiing accident left him bedridden.
Michael Schumacher shows health progress, no longer bedridden
Michael Schumacher continues to be cared for by his wife Corinna and doctors at his home. An exclusive Daily Mail report has now claimed that the 57-year-old F1 star is no longer bedridden and can sit up in a wheelchair. It quoted a source as saying, “He understands some of the things going on around him, but probably not all of them.”
He may still be away from the sight of his fans, but the health update brings a sigh of relief for them. Schumacher was critically injured when he was thrown forward by 11 feet and hit his head on a boulder after striking a hidden rock while skiing. He was airlifted to the hospital and underwent multiple brain surgeries as his life was in danger. He was in a coma for several months, after which he finally came home to recuperate. Since then, his wife Corinna has continued to be by his side along with the doctors, and they have chosen to keep his condition private.
Schumacher’s record of seven F1 World Championship victories has been equaled by Lewis Hamilton, but at the time of his retirement, he held the records for most wins and podiums. Schumacher and Corinna have been married since 1995, and she remains by his side as he lives a different life at his home. His daughter got married in 2024, while his son Mick Schumacher had a brief stint in F1 and now competes in the IndyCar Series.
Earlier, there were reports that he was a part of his daughter Gina Schumacher’s wedding two years back, but they could not be confirmed. Earlier this month, she wished Schumacher on his 57th birthday by sharing a childhood family picture and captioning it, “The best forever. Happy birthday, papa.”
