Mammootty, who is basking in the glory of his Padma Bhushan and Kerala State Film Award, is planning to catch up with his dear friend Kamal Haasan soon! The superstar wrote back to Kamal Haasan after the latter wished him on the Padma Bhushan win.
On Tuesday, January 27, Mammootty told Kamal Haasan that they should catch up soon and make up for the lost time.
Thank you, dear Kamal, for those truly humbling words. You’re being too kind. And yes, let’s catch up soon and make up for the time we’ve lost (smiley face),” Mammootty wrote.

Kamal Haasan congratulates his dear friend Mammootty on the Padma Bhushan win
On January 25, Kamal Haasan took to his X (formerly Twitter) timeline to congratulate Mammootty on the Padma Bhushan honor. Though Mammooty and Kamal Haasan haven’t acted together in films, they share a great rapport. “We havent acted together in any films. However, we have been admiring each other from afar. We critique each other when we meet in person. We have been nurturing a Kopperuncholayar Pisiranthaiyar kind of friendship akin for several years,” Kamal Haasan said.
The Kopperuncholayar Pisiranthaiyar relationship that Kamal Haasan referred to is about the iconic friendship between Chola King Kopperun Cholan and the Pandya poet Pisiranthaiyar.
Though Mammootty and Kamal Haasan haven’t shared screen space, they have collaborated for the 2024 Malayalam anthology ‘Manorathangal’ based on MT Vasudevan Nair’s short stories. Kamal Haasan presented the anthology.
What’s next for Mammootty?
Mammootty has recently announced his next, ‘Padayaatra’, with iconic filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishnan. The duo is reuniting after 32 years. Their last collaboration was for ‘Vidheyan’, which was released in 1994. ‘Padayaatra’ marks their fourth collaboration.
Mammootty’s recent outing was ‘Kalamkaaval’. The film is now streaming online.
